Starting next Thursday, a new provision under the 2021 Emergency Ordinance will take effect ordering selected individuals to wear an electronic tracking wristband, due to COVID-19 concerns.

The Health Minister says this involves individuals infected by COVID-19, suspected close contacts, and Persons Under Surveillance.

It's to control their movement, to prevent the infection from spreading.

The Cabinet has no plans to advise the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to allow Parliament to reconvene during the country's State of Emergency.

De facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan says for now, their main priority is to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

Datuk Seri Takiyuddin says there are also concerns over the safety of MPs if Parliament were to reconvene, as many of them are in the high-risk category due to their age.

Some private hospitals are already being used as COVID-19 vaccination centres for private healthcare workers during the first phase of the National Immunisation Program.

The program's coordinating minister says more of these facilities will be included during the second and third phase of vaccinations.

This, as the government aims to immunise up to 150,000 people per day in later phases.
