Malaysia on track to achieve vaccination target

Malaysia is on track to achieving the target of having 80% of its population vaccinated against Covid-19 and subsequently creating herd immunity.

The Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry is hoping more people will register for immunisation and aims to hit the 5-million-people mark over the next two weeks.

So far, some 3.8 million individuals have signed up to receive the jab.

Khairy to receive first Sinovac vaccine in Malaysia

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, will be the first person to receive the Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine in Malaysia!

This as a conditional approval has been granted for the use of the vaccine, which means it will be allowed to be administered in the country but with monitoring by the Health Ministry for one year.

Khairy had earlier mentioned that he will take the next approved vaccine to prove that it is safe and Sinovac will be the second vaccine after Pfizer-BioNTech to be used in the vaccination programme.

He opted out from taking the Pfizer vaccine to reject claims that politicians and leaders will only take the Pfizer jab.

Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have hit a new low for this year, after 1,529 new infections were reported yesterday.

Daily cases peaked in late January with a record of almost 5,800 cases on January 30.

There’s also less than 20,000 people seeking treatment for the coronavirus.
