PM announces RM40bil aid package
Jun 01, 2021
A RM 40 billion aid package has been announced by the Prime Minister to help the rakyat and businesses through the national lockdown.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says they will allocate an additional RM2.1 billion for financial aid under Bantuan Prihatin Rakyat.
This aid will be transferred to the recipients' bank account by the end of this month and this is an additional assistance to the BPR aid given out in September.
Those in the lower income group B40 and affected by losses of income, as well as SMEs not operating during the lockdown are eligible for a 3-month automatic loan moratorium.
They may choose to take up the moratorium or pay back their loans at a 50% lowered rate over 6 months.
The government will spend another RM 1.5 billion on wage subsidies for one month.
Meanwhile, all ministers and deputy ministers including Tan Sri Muhyiddin will not be receiving salaries for 3 months starting this month, as a sign of support for the country.
Their salaries will be used for disaster relief in relation to Covid-19.
Malaysia goes into a total lockdown today for 2 weeks until June 14th.
Businesses and sectors allowed to operate during the lockdown must apply through a one-stop centre managed by the International Trade and Industry Ministry, MITI.
Putrajaya says this centre will issue permission letters for those listed as essential to operate once it receives confirmation from the ministries overseeing the relevant sector.
MySejahtera users have been advised to update their residential address on the app, if they have not done so.
Minister in-charge of the vaccination programme Khairy Jamaluddin says inputting your states and postcodes will ensure that you aren’t given vaccination centres too far from you.
