The government has granted conditional approval for Covid-19 home test kits for public use.

The Health Director General says importers and distributors must provide user-friendly instructions for usage and disposal methods.

He adds that the Covid-19 self-test kits will lessen the burden on frontliners while easing processes for the detection and control of Covid-19 cases.

However, the Medical Device Authority noted that the self-test kit does not replace the diagnostic functions of the RT-PCR test.

The Health Ministry says it had carried out over 130 thousand Covid-19 tests on Tuesday, the highest over a two-week period.

The high number of targeted screening exercises in the Klang Valley subsequently led to a surge in daily number of Covid-19 cases.
