There has been a rise in the number of pregnant women getting infected by the coronavirus.

The Health Director General says since last October, the monthly average of such cases spiked from 200 to 850 in May this year.

Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah adds that 70 pregnant women died due to COVID-19 complications this year, while no casualties were reported throughout the whole of 2020.

Meanwhile, Dr Noor Hisham says not enough expecting mothers are registering for the COVID vaccine.

He says currently, less than 150,000 have signed up on the Mysejahtera app.

As such, he urged these women to take the jab, to prevent them from suffering severe infection.

A large crowd that gathered at the Rumah Prihatin Grand Seasons welfare center in KL, was due to a misunderstanding.

Its management says this follows claims that its immunization center offered walk-in COVID-19 vaccinations to foreign nationals.

However, it explained that only Malaysian citizens were allowed to walk-in for the jab.

A video of the incident went viral yesterday.
