MPs given deadline to submit new PM candidate

All Parliament members have been handed a deadline to submit the name of their candidate to become Malaysia’s 9th Prime Minister.
The Dewan Rakyat Speaker says MPs will have until 4pm tomorrow to submit their vote to Istana Negara.
This follows Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s resignation as PM yesterday.
Tan Sri Muhyiddin is caretaker PM until his successor is appointed.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong wants politicians to be united in the fight against COVID-19
PKR Chief Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says the appointment of a new PM was not the focus during an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong earlier today.
He says the Agong wants politicians to unite and deal with the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic together.
UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, DAP sec-gen Lim Guan Eng, and PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man were among political leaders who were seen at the Palace.

Over 19k new COVID-19 cases for second consecutive day
Malaysia’s number of new COVID-19 cases hovered at around the 19,000 mark for a second consecutive day.
According to the Health Ministry, 19,631 infections were detected nationwide, with Selangor having the most cases.
Sabah had the second most infections, ahead of Kedah, and KL.
