EPF chairman warns members risk old-age poverty
Nov 24, 2021
EPF is concerned that the majority of its members are now at risk of falling into old-age poverty.
This is because Covid-19-related withdrawals have resulted in insufficient savings for retirement.
EPF says this will not only be detrimental to individual livelihoods, the socio-economic landscape of the country but its fiscal health will also be challenging.
Almost 50% of EPF members below the age of 55 have critically low EPF savings.
It adds that the savings will need to be sustainable for at least 20 years, taking into account our life expectancy at 75, and assuming EPF members start to draw down their retirement savings at age 55.
The Education Ministry has denied issuing any circular on forms of punishments that are not allowed to be meted out to students.
This following a report claiming that teachers could be penalised for criticising their students or nagging.
The list is actually a recycled issue, having gone viral since at least 2012, based on a Google search.
