msians banned from visiting selected african countries

Starting tomorrow, Malaysians will not be allowed to travel to several African countries due to the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant.

Khairy Jamaluddin says they include South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.

The Health Minister says according to reports, the new strain has double the mutations compared to the highly transmissible Delta variant.

Khairy adds that currently, no such variant has been detected here in Malaysia.

On another note, the Health Ministry reported a drop in new COVID cases in the country at 5,501 today.

This is some 640 infections lower compared to yesterday’s figure.

A survey in Kelantan has found several factors behind those who still refuse the COVID-19 vaccine.

Authorities say among them include concerns of experiencing adverse and fatal side effects.

The survey also noted that some are not confident to take the jab, with others claiming the vaccines were produced in too short a time.

However, despite these concerns, authorities say many have visited the vaccination center at Hospital Universiti Sains Malaysia to take the injection.

Nearly 30,000 people have been given the jab since the center started operations last March.
