plans to enter endemic phase paused for now

Malaysia’s plans to enter the endemic phase of COVID-19 have been put on hold for now.

The Defence Minister says it's because of the emergence of the new Omicron variant overseas.

Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein adds that for now, existing SOPs will remain for areas under Phase 3 and 4 of the National Recovery Plan.

He also echoed the Health Ministry’s reminder to remain cautious and get vaccinated.

So far, no Omicron cases have been detected here in Malaysia.

The Education Ministry says since early October, school attendance reached over 85%.

This accounts for some 8,000 schools, involving more than four million students.

Malaysia reaches milestone following Merdeka 118 tower spire completion

plans to enter endemic phase paused for now

Malaysia has achieved a milestone, after completing the spire of the Merdeka 118 tower in KL.

Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says he is proud of the spire's completion despite the country being hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The PM says not only is this a great achievement in the field of engineering, but also further strengthens the country's position as a modern and developed nation.

Once fully completed, the tower will become the tallest building in South-East Asia, and the world's second tallest behind Dubai's Burj Khalifa.
