Total Omicron cases climbs to 62

Malaysia has now reported a total of 62 COVID-19 cases linked to the Omicron variant.
Khairy Jamaluddin says this is after 45 samples were confirmed Omicron following genomic sequencing.
The Health Minister adds that another four Omicron infections were detected in Sarawak.

Sec-gens’ leaves also cancelled
Secretary-generals of all ministries and heads of government agencies have had their leaves cancelled due to the country’s flood situation.
The Chief Secretary to the Govt says it’s to enable all agencies to mobilise their assets to tackle the disaster.
It’s also in line with the PM’s orders, for all Cabinet ministers to cancel their plans of travelling abroad, and to return home immediately if they are already overseas.

Selangor flood serves as a lesson in disaster management
The flood situation in Selangor serves as a lesson for authorities to do better in managing disasters.
The PM’s Dept says this includes being prepared to manage floods involving high density residential areas, where floods are a rare occurrence.
It also hopes that all parties will pay more attention when the Met Department issues weather warnings.
