The Omicron wave has begun

Jan 27, 2022

the omicron wave has begun

The COVID-19 Omicron wave has begun in Malaysia with daily cases expected to rise.

However, the Health Minister assures that the situation is under control due to the country’s high vaccination rate.

Khairy Jamaluddin adds that the healthcare system is ready, as severe infections are on a downward trend.

This, after new COVID cases nationwide rose to over 4,700 yesterday, up by nearly 680 cases from the previous day.

However, less than 1% of the new infections are in categories 3,4, and 5.

There were also 3,600-plus recoveries.

Health Minister denies placebos being used in Immunisation Program

the omicron wave has begun

The Health Ministry has rubbished viral claims alleging placebos are being used under the National COVID-19 Immunisation Program.

It explained that placebos, which do not contain active substances, were only used during clinical trials.

It stressed that all pharmaceutical products including vaccines approved by the Drug Control Authority, were produced through manufacturers that complied with international standards.

As such, KKM views the allegations seriously and will lodge reports to the relevant authorities.

107 education clusters detected since January 1

the omicron wave has begun

More than 100 COVID-19 clusters have been detected in the education sector since the start of January.

It involves over 4,600 cases, of which 12 cases were from categories three and four.

The Health Ministry adds that the infections were due to SOP complacency among school staff and students.

Other causes include those showing symptoms still attending classes, and poor ventilation systems in classrooms and dorms.
