KJ: Don't worry too much over Omicron spike

Feb 04, 2022

kj: don't worry too much over omicron spike

Don't be too worried about today's sharp spike in daily COVID-19 cases.

Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin says the jump is due to a surge in Omicron cases, which is not as severe as other variants such as Delta.

This is coupled with the country's high vaccination rate.

It also comes a day after the ministry said that the number of daily cases is no longer its primary concern.

Instead, it's the severity of the cases.

Today, the Health Director General reported 7,234 new infections.

It's up by over 1,500 cases compared to yesterday.

Just under 52% of adults in Malaysia have now taken the COVID-19 booster dose.

This as over 12.1 million people aged 18 and above were given the shot, since it became available here.

Meanwhile, CovidNow says 22.9 million adults have completed their vaccinations.

For adolescents, it's at 2.7 million.

Also, Malayisa reported eight new COVID-related deaths yesterday.
