Daily Covid cases hit over one-year low

Malaysia has reported its lowest daily Covid-19 case tally in over a year.
1,503 new infections were reported nationwide yesterday, the first time since April last year that case numbers have been below two thousand.
There were also over 5,800 new recoveries, while the number of fatalities declined to three.

The Health Minister is encouraging people to continue wearing masks outdoors, if the location becomes visibly crowded.
Khairy Jamaluddin reminded that even though it is no longer compulsory to wear masks outdoors, people should still think about protecting the vulnerable, including the elderly.

The Labour Day replacement holiday will be automatically carried over to Wednesday, since today is the first day of Raya.
The Prime Minister adds that the automatic holiday does not apply to Kedah, Terengganu, Kelantan and Johor, because Labour Day fell on a Sunday, which a working day in these states.
However, it is still up to the respective state governments to make an announcement regarding days off.
Separately, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced several perks in conjunction with Labour Day yesterday.
Among them, is the government agreeing to bear 80 percent of the total contribution of self-employed individuals through the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme under SOCSO.
There is also the Keluarga Malaysia Vehicle Insurance Financing program…which will first be introduced for civil servants before being extended to the private sector.
