The government is studying alternatives to replace caning.

De facto Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar says the punishment is considered cruel and inhumane…and needs to be reviewed.

He adds that a technical committee will be established, to conduct a study on the matter, and to obtain input from all parties and stakeholders.

-

The Prime Minister is scheduled to conduct a performance review of his Cabinet ministers soon.

This, as Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob marked one year in power over the weekend.

The Chief Secretary to the Government says the ministers will be evaluated based on KPI’s that focus on the effective delivery of people-centric initiatives.

-

The Finance Minister has rubbished a recent report, claiming that Malaysia’s household debt is at the highest level in Asia.

He says there are other countries in the Asia Pacific region with higher debt than us.

The Minister also adds that most Malaysians take on debt to purchase assets like houses, that increase in value over time.

-

The Immigration Officer, who was seen in a recent viral video shouting at a member of the public, has been transferred.

The Department Director-General says even though the officer had been provoked, the action went against the department’s values.

An investigation by the department’s integrity division will also be initiated.
