The Johor Menteri Besar is appealing to the Federal government to consider a loan moratorium for flood victims in the state.
Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi says a moratorium of between three to six months will go a long way towards easing the burden of those who’ve already suffered huge losses.
He adds that the people of Johor have been facing a very challenging start to 2023, with floods affecting the state twice so far this year.

Aid and assistance for those in need – including flood victims – is sometimes channeled directly to the recipients.
The Prime Minister explained that this assistance does not always go through the respective Members of Parliament…but assures that it does reach the grassroots.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said this, in response to a proposal for the government to allocate at least 300 thousand ringgit to every MP, to channel aid to flood victims in their areas.

Meanwhile, the number of flood fatalities in Johor is up to five.
This, after authorities found the body of a 24-year-old woman, whose car was swept away by floodwaters in Mersing.

The Cabinet is set to discuss proposals to have a single immigration clearance system at the Malaysia-Singapore border, in a bid to ease congestion at the Causeway.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof says the move - if approved - would allow those who want to enter Malaysia, to get clearance by Malaysian Immigration personnel deployed in Singapore.
