govt eyes win-win solution to contract doctor issue

The government is committed to ensure a win-win solution in resolving the contract doctor issue.

The Deputy Prime Minister says the aim is to give these doctors fair treatment and to protect their welfare, adding that he will present more details to the Prime Minister soon.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has warned that action will be taken against government servants who participate in illegal assemblies.

It follows reports of a three-day strike by contract doctors starting today, to protest what they say is an unfair system and low wages.

Meanwhile, the Ministry has taken action to ensure that the strike does not disrupt operations at public health facilities.

Minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa told the NST hospital and state health directors have been placed on alert, as part of contingency plans to ensure that services continue to be provided to patients.
