Jul 04, 2023

water surge tragedy: another victim found

Another body has been found from the water surge incident in Kemaman, Terengganu this morning, although police and family members have yet to identify the latest victim.

This brings the total body count from the tragedy so far to seven.

The search for the three remaining victims is currently ongoing, involving some 170 personnel from various agencies including the Fire and Rescue Department and Civil Defence Force.

-

Meanwhile, the Civil Defense Force is urging the public to be aware of warning signs like the weather when taking part in leisure activities outdoors.

They’re also advising those who go camping or on picnics to pitch their tents further away from bodies of water.

-

The law to abolish the mandatory death penalty takes effect today.

It comes after the Dewan Rakyat passed the Abolition of the Mandatory Death Penalty Act back in April, which gives the courts the discretion to impose the death penalty or imprisonment.

-

The police have warned of stern action against anyone who stirs up issues related to race, religion or royalty in the leadup to the upcoming state elections.

The IGP says political parties and candidates, in particular, should know the do’s and don’ts ahead of polling.

-

And, NGO’s and the Home Ministry will hold discussions soon, regarding the proposed amendment to the Federal Constitution involving the citizenship of abandoned kids.
