Task Forces To Study Separation of Powers

Two special tasks forces will be set up, to study and speed up the process of separating the powers of the Attorney General and the Public Prosecutor.

The de-facto Law Minister says they will conduct evidence-based research on the matter, and look into the legal, financial and staffing implications of separating the powers.

Further engagement will also be conducted with relevant stakeholders like the police and other enforcement agencies.

Separately, minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said says special guidelines for handling cases of sexual offences against children will be updated to a new version in January.

This will be the first update since the guidelines were issued in 2017.

Azalina says the update will take into account recent amendments of relevant laws…and will keep up with the advancements of technology.

Respecting the country’s institutions and laws is seen as the most important attribute to be considered a true Malaysian.

This is according to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, on what Malaysians consider important to share a national identity.

Being polite and welcoming, and being able to speak the national language, also featured high on the list of requirements.

The Red Crescent says as many as 10 thousand people are missing, following massive flooding in Libya…that has caused at least 2,300 fatalities.

Local sources say the floods were triggered by the collapse of two dams due to heavy rain.

And, Google is currently on trial in the US, where its accused by the government of paying billions of dollars to phone makers to be pre-installed as the default search engine, in order to safeguard its monopoly on online searches.
