Prepare Now For Monsoon Season

Sep 27, 2023

All district-level disaster management committees have been instructed to prepare now for possible flooding and landslides during the monsoon season.

The National Disaster Management Agency says its also been conducting simulations and drills, to address any weaknesses in last year’s flood response.

Meanwhile, the number of flood evacuees nationwide has risen to around 400 overnight.

228 of the victims are in Kedah…while the rest are in Sabah and Perlis.

-

Talks are underway to set up a National Anti-Scam Task Force within Bank Negara to curb online scams.

The Communications and Digital Ministry says this follows a recent rise in such cases…with police statistics showing that more than half of commercial crimes reported annually consisted of online fraud.

-

Separately, the ministry says the government will study the possibility of allowing drones to be used in the courier and delivery industry.

-

The JPJ will continue to offer both online and over-the-counter services for the time being.

This is because not everyone is ready to make the switch to fully-digital…especially those in rural areas…and those like the elderly who are not tech-savvy.

The JPJ director-general says this is why they will offer dual options, as part of the gradual transition to fully online and app-based operations.

-

Employers who raise their workers’ salaries under the progressive wage policy, will be given cash incentives.

The Economy Minister says this is to encourage more companies, especially SME’s, to participate in the policy, which is scheduled for implementation by May next year.
