More than 230 thousand users have completed the registration process for the PADU database as of yesterday.

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil adds that the same phone number can be used to register for up to five different PADU accounts.

This is to benefit families where some members are underaged or do not posses their own mobile phone.

The Fire and Rescue Department is considering setting up a Forward Operating Base for its airborne operations in the east coast.

This is to help it reduce its response time to emergencies, especially floods, in Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

Separately, the Consumer Association of Penang wants the government to consider implementing policies to minimize the impact of natural disasters on animals.

It says currently, animals are not a priority in disaster management…leading to their suffering and loss of life…and loss of income to livestock farmers when major flooding hits.

Bukit Aman says over six thousand summonses were issued for various traffic offences over New Year’s eve and January 1st.

A total of 84 individuals were also arrested during this period.

The Kedah government has approved January 25th as an occassional state holiday in conjunction with Thaipusam.
