New Consumer Credit Act

Apr 17, 2024

new consumer credit act

Bank Negara is stepping up efforts to prevent youths from falling into debt.

As such, it's drafting the Consumer Credit Act, which will impose tighter regulations on credit providers, especially those offering 'buy now, pay later' services.

The central bank says it'll set up a special body to oversee companies that provide such services.

It adds that several other ministries are involved in the law’s enactment, including the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry and the Housing and Local Government Ministry.

Previously, Berita Harian reported that more young people, some as young as 19, fell into debt through credit agencies.

More needs to be done to tackle violence against women.

The Women's Aid Organization is urging the government to find a more comprehensive approach to create a society where every woman can live free from violence and fear.

This includes preventive measures, better support services for victims, and tougher legal enforcement.

The WAO said this in light of the recent shooting at the KLIA Terminal 1 Arrival Hall, where a man attempted to shoot his wife...missing her but injuring her bodyguard.

WhatsApp has announced a new feature that will allow users to filter chats by unread messages, and to only view messages sent in groups.

The feature, called Chat Filters, will appear at the top of a user’s chat list, which starts rolling out today and will be available to everyone in the coming weeks.
