Ulu Tiram Police Station Attacked

May 17, 2024

ulu tiram police station attacked

2 policemen have died, and another was injured following an attack on the Ulu Tiram police station in Johor early this morning.

Cops say the suspect was shot and killed at the scene.

According to the IGP, the attacker was a suspected member of the Jemaah Islamiyah militant group.

The exact motive is still under investigation, but Tan Sri Razarudin Husain says it's believed that he wanted to obtain the station's weapons.

So far, seven people have been taken into custody over the attack, and will be remanded tomorrow.

They include two people who were lodging a report at the station during the incident.

The other 5 were members of the attacker's family.

Tan Sri Razarudin adds that the raid on their house also uncovered evidence that allegedly linked them with Jemaah Islamiyah.

He has since ordered Bukit Aman's Special Branch to round up some 20 other suspected JI members in the state to help with investigations.

The IGP also ordered heightened security for all police stations nationwide and other key areas.

PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim condemned the attack, and called for stern action to be taken against those who seek to create chaos in the country.

His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia expressed his sadness over the deaths of the policemen and hailed them as national heroes.

The Cabinet also conveyed its condolences.

Meanwhile the Communications Minister reminded everyone not to share unverified info on the incident, and to avoid any speculation that could affect investigations.
