IGP: Ulu Tiram Attacker's Family Held Under SOSMA

May 24, 2024

igp: ulu tiram attacker's family held under sosma

The IGP says 5 relatives of the Ulu Tiram police station attacker have now been detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, or SOSMA, after their remand period expired.

Tan Sri Razarudin Husain says this after investigations revealed that they held radical beliefs and isolated themselves from society.

"After questioning witnesses and neighbours, police found out that the family was living in isolation, and did not mix around with people, and the children did not even finish school.”

Meanwhile in response to the attack, the IGP says police are stepping up security at remote police stations, and improving the force’s SOPs and readiness to handle any threat.

On another note, the IGP says authorities are still trying to determine if there was a link between the Faisal Halim acid attack and separate violent incidents involving fellow footballers including Akhyar Rashid and Safiq Rahim.

He adds cops believe they will get a better picture of the situation, once they determine the motive for the attack on Faisal.

The National Disaster Management Agency, Nadma, has reminded everyone to take the necessary health precautions during the Southwest Monsoon season, which started mid-this month.

It’s to prevent complications such as heatstroke.

Nadma also says the government has also agreed to allocate RM10 million to help areas that will be significantly impacted by the Monsoon.

The Southwest Monsoon raises the likelihood of water supply shortages, forest or bushfires, haze, and reduced agricultural yields.
