M'sia To Enforce VEP Rules In October

Vehicle Entry Permit rules along the border with Singapore will be fully enforced starting October 1st.
Once it happens, foreign-registered vehicles entering Malaysia from Singapore must use Vehicle Entry Permit RFID tags.
The Transport Minister says those who fail to comply could face a compound, or a maximum penalty of a RM2,000 fine and 6 months in prison.
He adds that currently, 70,000, out of 200,000 Singapore-registered vehicles have already activated the tags.
The VEP RFID tags are available for just RM10, with a validity period of 5 years.

1,694 road crashes were reported nationwide yesterday.
According to Bukit Aman traffic police, they resulted in 20 fatalities.
This means that since the start of May, cops have recorded 47 thousand crashes, and an average of 13 deaths per day.

The Defence Ministry's final report into last month's fatal crash involving two Navy helicopters is expected to be released next week.
