cops warn of new scam targeting seniors

Police are warning the public of a new syndicate, targeting senior citizens with fraudulent part-time job offers as hotel booking agents.

Victims are required to bank in their own money to get started…which they’re later unable to withdraw without paying high fees and charges.

Bukit Aman says its so far received 21 reports regarding this scam…involving losses of over 700 thousand ringgit.

The government will be conducting studies and discussions nationwide, to help come up with better online safety laws.

Its part of efforts to develop a comprehensive legal policy, to address this complex subject.

The de-facto Law Minister says we need to strike a balance between encouraging digitalization, and protecting people from potential dangers – especially with the emergence of Artificial Intelligence.

The MACC is keeping a close eye on local councils nationwide, to nab civil servants receiving bribes to let illegal businesses operate.

The Commission says this is one of its main areas of focus at the moment.

It comes after the MACC detained a senior DBKL officer last week, for allegedly receiving monthly bribes to let foreigners run businesses in KL.

CUEPACS has welcomed the PM’s proposal, to withhold promotions for government department heads who fail to report corruption or misconduct.

It says such a move can help uphold the highest standards of performance within the civil service.
