Ministries To Meet To Discuss Cyberbullying

Jul 10, 2024

ministries to meet to discuss cyberbullying

The relevant ministries will be holding a meeting today to discuss matters related to cyberbullying.

The Communications Minister says it's to gather input, before bringing the matter up at the Cabinet meeting this Friday.

Meanwhile, Fahmi Fadzil says he’s already directed the MCMC to take action against several individuals, who’ve been found to have uploaded offensive comments during LIVE feeds on social media.

This comes following the death of a social media influencer, shortly after she lodged a report about being bullied online.

-

In a related development, the Education Ministry is stepping up efforts to ensure that students have a support system in school when it comes to dealing with mental health issues.

Minister Fadhlina Sidek says they're looking into increasing the number of counselling teachers in schools nationwide.

-

Police stations will still operate as normal despite the new ruling that they must close their front gates after 10PM.

The IGP clarified that the public can still lodge police reports after they state their purpose at the security post.

The decision to close the front gate after 10pm was made in the wake of the deadly Ulu Tiram police station attack back in May.

-

The government has approved amendments to the laws that combat online financial fraud crimes.

Under the new changes, bank account holders who allow their accounts to be used by others for illegal purposes, face jail time of up to seven years, or a fine of up to 100 thousand ringgit.
