uk riots a warning about dangers of fake news

The Communications Minister says the ongoing riots in the UK, is a lesson about the dangers of fake news.

This, after far-right elements in England used misinformation about the recent Southport stabbing incident to incite the current unrest.

Fahmi Fadzil says this should serve as a warning for us here...since there's been a significant spread of fake news on social media since the last general election.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed that no Malaysians have been affected by the UK protests so far.

However, it reminded our nationals there to stay vigilant and to avoid conflict areas.

-

Separately, Malaysians planning to travel to Bangladesh have been advised to postpone or avoid the trip entirely due to the current political unrest there.

-

There’s good news for civil servants!

The government says their salaries will be adjusted from between 15% to 42.7%...depending on rank.

More details and guidelines for the revision are expected to be released next week.

-

The Finance Ministry says the price of diesel has been reduced by 5 sen for the week ending August 14th.

However, the price of RON95 and RON97 will remain the same.

-

And elsewhere... three upcoming Taylor Swift concerts in Vienna have been cancelled as a precaution, following the arrest of two people on suspicion of planning attacks on large events around the Austrian capital.
