King, Queen Grace First Merdeka Celebration

Aug 31, 2024

king, queen grace first merdeka celebration

The King and Queen of Malaysia graced the National Day event in Putrajaya this morning.

It was Their Majesties first time attending the celebration, since Sultan Ibrahim was sworn in and crowned as Yang DiPertuan Agong.

Meanwhile, Bernama reports that crowds had started gathering at the public seating areas from as early as 3.30 this morning to get the best vantage point, with some even camping overnight in Putrajaya.

-

In a related development, Malaysians are being urged to learn from our past struggle to gain independence.

In his National Day message, PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says we need to drive home the importance of how none of it could have happened, without the full support of all races.

-

The search for the Jalan Masjid India sinkhole incident is into its ninth day today.

Yesterday’s operation continued until the early hours of this morning, with teams using a telescopic camera to get a clearer look inside the sewers.

-

Meanwhile the Works Ministry says the government is working to address the potential risk of other sinkholes.

This including identifying any high-risk areas, and using science and technology to address and prevent such incidents.

-

And, eleven districts have been identified as ageing districts -  where seven per cent of the population is aged 65 years and over.

The Statistics Department says the districts are in Sarawak, Selangor, Perak, Sabah, Penang, Kelantan and Johor.
