Stop Calling 999 For Fun!

Sep 03, 2024

stop calling 999 for fun!

Do not call 999 unless you have an emergency.

The MCMC is reminding the public that misusing the emergency number is illegal and can result in both jail time and a hefty fine.

This, after the commission recorded a surge in the number of non-emergency calls.

It explained that 62% of the calls it received until May this year were due to various non-emergency purposes.

This includes complaints about food courier services, and prank calls.

As such, the MCMC has terminated phone numbers that made prank calls to the emergency hotline.

---

Separately, the commission has removed over 32 thousand fraud and scam content so far this year, which is an increase compared to last year.

The Communications Ministry says individuals lost nearly 3.2 billion ringgit to online scams between 2021 and April this year.

It explained that the increasing number of cases and losses is due to the rising threat of cybercrime and AI.

Make sure to check your travel restriction status in advance before travelling abroad.

It’s to ensure that you are not blacklisted from leaving the country because of unpaid taxes.

The Inland Revenue Board says taxpayers can do so through the Immigration Department's portal.

However, those who are unable to pay their tax arrears fully can discuss with the IRB to obtain temporary relief.
