PM Wants Steps To End Custodial Abuses, Deaths

The government is stepping up efforts to prevent deaths and abuses in custody and has directed SUHAKAM and PDRM to look into the matter.
The Prime Minister adds that he’s even prepared to join SUHAKAM on their visits to police lockups, to personally check on the condition of detainees.
Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explained that it's because he has first-hand experience of being beaten in police custody back in the late 90's.

The National Disaster Management Agency has begun preparations for the impending east coast monsoon, which is expected to begin in November.
It says it'll hold a meeting next month to review strategies, assets, resources, and affected areas.
The agency adds that it's already identified hotspots that are prone to significant flooding and will take appropriate steps to help these areas prepare.

The Works Ministry is drafting a new National Slope Policy to reduce the number of landslides nationwide.
It says the new policy will take effect this year, since the previous one already expired in 2023.
This, after the ministry identified over a thousand landslide-prone slopes nationwide and took measures to install equipment to monitor land movement in the affected areas.

Political blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin has passed away in the UK at the age of 74.
The news was confirmed by his brother, in a message to FMT.
