Halal certification will remain voluntary.

The DPM says the Cabinet has rejected a proposal to make halal certs mandatory for all eateries that do not serve pork or alcohol.

However, he did encourage food operators to get the cert...to give them better access to a bigger market.

Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi also called for the adoption of new advancements like blockchain technology, to improve transparency and reduce fraud in the Halal certification process.

Five people linked to GISB have been arrested while attempting to flee the country yesterday.
