Digital Road Tax, Licence Here To Stay

Oct 23, 2024

digital road tax, licence here to stay

The government will not make a U-turn on the digitalisation of our driving licenses and road tax.

The Transport Ministry says this is part of the overall digitalisation of government services.

It also pointed out that motorists are free to print out physical copies to comply with the laws in neighbouring countries.

This, following previous reports of some Malaysian motorists being hit with summonses in Thailand, for not having physical copies of their road tax and driving licences.

Budget 2025’s RM50m allocation for National Service 3.0 is enough to meet the programme's funding needs.

PLKN Alumni president Mohd Nazrin Faiz, who was directly involved in planning the new modules, says it’s because the government managed to keep costs down by developing the modules in-house, and holding training at military camps.

National Service will make its comeback starting next year, with the first phase involving secondary school students.

22 GISB-linked individuals have been hit with organised crime charges, including its CEO.

If convicted they face penalties of up to 20 years in prison.

They were previously detained under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act, or SOSMA, amid police investigations into the controversial group.

The probe led to the arrest of 400 people, while 600 children were rescued from alleged abuse and exploitation at GISB-linked welfare homes.

Meanwhile, the IGP says 30 other GISB-linked people are still being held under SOSMA, pending further police investigations.

The father of the attacker who was killed in the Ulu Tiram police station attack has pleaded not guilty in court on terrorism-related charges.

He was hit with three counts, including weapons possession and spreading and supporting terrorist ideologies.
