More Students Having Suicidal Thoughts

Oct 24, 2024

more students having suicidal thoughts

The Education Minister says the number of students with suicidal thoughts has shown a worrying increase, amid an emerging self-harm trend.

As such, the ministry has implemented several intervention measures, such as psychological profiling in schools.

However, it emphasized that parents also share an equal responsibility to prevent such behavior at an early stage.

According to the Adolescent Health Survey, the number of students aged 13 to 17 with suicidal ideation increased to over 13% in 2022, compared to 10% five years ago.

Meanwhile, if you're feeling down or need someone to talk to, you can call the government's Talian Heal helpline at 15-555.

The Prime Minister has expressed concern over the worrying trend of fatal accidents involving school students.

This, after police recorded nearly 780 cases in just the first nine months of the year.

As such, authorities will launch road operations focusing on motorcyclists, because they contribute the most to road accidents compared to other vehicles.

The Communications Ministry has reassured that the new Online Safety Bill will not restrict free speech in Malaysia.

It explained that the bill will focus on curbing online crimes and holding social media operators accountable for curbing criminal activities on their platforms.
