deepavali: expect 2.6m vehicles on main highways

Concessionaires have been told to make the the necessary preparations, ahead of a surge in vehicles along major highways ahead of Deepavali celebrations.

The Malaysian Highway Authority says this includes ensuring that their R&Rs are in good condition.

They should also avoid any lane closures unless it is absolutely necessary.

This, as over 2.6 million vehicles are expected to travel along major highways starting tomorrow.

--

Meanwhile in conjunction with Deepavali, the Works Ministry has announced toll free rides for personal vehicles along all highways, for tomorrow and Wednesday.

It will be implemented from 12.01am tonight and end at 11.59pm on Wednesday.

However, they will not apply to tolls at the country’s border with Singapore.

The Economy Ministry expects to finalise the definition of the T15 income group within a month.

Minister Rafizi Ramli says the income threshold will vary depending on location, because different areas will have different expenses and living standards.

--

The EPF is adamant that it will not allow contributors to withdraw from their main savings account, to help them fund their Haj pilgrimage.

According to the Finance Ministry, it’s to ensure that they will have basic savings of at least RM240,000 for their post-retirement life.
