No Change To Senior Citizens Driving License Renewals...

Nov 25, 2024

no change to senior citizens driving license renewals...

Senior citizens can carry on renewing their driving licenses as per usual for now.

The JPJ says currently, there are no plans to adopt any new criteria for them to be eligible for license renewals.

It acknowledged that there ARE proposals to impose these new conditions, but at this point they remain at the policy stage within the Transport Ministry.

According to earlier reports, the government is considering including competency and health assessments as a condition for seniors to get license renewals.

This, amid an increasing number of road accidents involving motorists aged 65 and above.

The govt is still in negotiations with highway concessionares on the proposed adoption of the Multi-Lane Fast Flow system – or MLFF.

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan told the Dewan Rakyat that currently, around a dozen of these concessionaires are against the system.

He adds that the law needs to be amended first, before MLFF can be implemented on highways.

It's to prevent cases of drivers avoiding paying toll.

The government wants to make it easier for authorities to identify people who hide behind fake social media accounts.

Deputy Communications Minister, Teo Nie Ching told the Dewan Rakyat, that the relevant laws will be amended, so that authorities can obtain the relevant data from platform providers.
