It's Everyone's Responsibility To Ensure Crime-Free Holidays

Dec 25, 2024

it's everyone's responsibility to ensure crime-free holidays

Everybody has a role to play in ensuring a safe and crime-free Christmas and New Year holiday period.

The IGP told The Star the police are doing their part, by stepping up anti-crime patrols around residential and commercial areas.

At the same time, he reminded those travelling to ensure their homes are secure.

He also advised people not to go overboard when partying, and to avoid driving under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, businesses hosting events such as New Year countdown parties should get the proper permits and ensure their patrons don’t get too rowdy.

Also, the Energy Commission issued a reminder for people to pay attention to electrical and gas safety during the holidays.

This includes turning off gas valves and unused electrical switches and appliances if you are returning to your hometown or going on vacation.

In his Christmas message, PM Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim urged all Malaysians to avoid any attempts to sow racial divisions.

He adds that due to our diverse mix of races and cultures, major festivals like Christmas are a source of strength and unity.

The Communications Minister has urged social media platforms to be more proactive in protecting children from any harm.

This, following the recent police operation that led to the arrest of over a dozen suspected pedophiles.

Meanwhile, the Law and Institutional Reform Minister says the government is introducing several legislative amendments to better help authorities in their fight against online child sexual predators.
