Dec 30, 2024

sombre new year's eve following jeju air crash

South Koreans have cancelled large scale New Year countdown events, as a mark of respect following yesterday's Jeju Air Crash that killed 179 people.

This, as the Korean government declared a period of nationwide mourning until Saturday.

The government has also ordered all of the country's airlines to conduct thorough safety inspections following the incident.

179 passengers and crew were killed when a Jeju Air flight skidded off a runway and crashed into a concrete barrier, after its landing gear failed to deploy.

Only two people survived the crash, which has been described as the worst Korean air disaster in decades

Also, South Korean authorities are investigating, after another Jeju Air flight had to turn back and make an emergency landing in Seoul earlier today, after the plane reported a problem with its landing gear.
