Jan 05, 2025

melaka bus crash: vital clue recovered

Police have made progress in the probe into the multi-vehicle accident in Melaka on December 23rd.

This is after cops said they discovered part of the trailer tire that’s believed to have caused the crash.

The wheel rim was recovered from a waste disposal centre in Tangkak, Johor, and has since been sent to the Chemistry Dept for analysis.

Earlier reports said that the tire fell off a trailer in the middle of the North-South Expressway near Ayer Keroh.

A tour bus swerved to avoid the tire and crashed into several oncoming vehicles, killing 7 people.

The Health Ministry has reminded people to be vigilant against respiratory illnesses.

This includes maintaining good hygiene and wearing face masks in crowded or enclosed spaces.

The Ministry says it’s because such illnesses are common during the year-end and new year period.

--

Meanwhile, the ministry has clarified that HMPV, or human metapneumovirus is NOT a new disease, as over 300 positive samples were recorded here last year.

It says therre have been no new cases so far, but it is monitoring the situation.

HMPV, which is reportedly spreading in China, causes flu-like symptoms.

So far, police have recorded statements from 15 individuals over the deaths of 4 people who attended the New Year’s Eve concert in Bandar Sunway.

They are still waiting for the autopsy, and toxicology reports to determine the cause of death, after initial investigations suggested that they may have died after taking ecstasy pills.

Meanwhile, Selangor police say two other concertgoers have regained consciousness in hospital but remain in a weak state.
