Najib Allowed To Fight For House Arrest
Jan 06, 2025
Datuk Seri Najib Razak has won his bid to have his house arrest dispute heard in court.
This is after the Court of Appeal allowed his application for a judicial review, to prove the existence of a royal addendum that would allow him to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest.
He's currently serving his sentence in prison, over his conviction in the RM42 million SRC International case.
Meanwhile, the Home Ministry says the Prisons Dept did NOT receive any directive from the Pardons Board about placing Najib under house arrest.
Its minister says the department only received the board's directive to reduce his initial 12-year jail sentence to six.
In related news, the federal government says it will leave it to the authorities to take any possible action over today's pro-Najib in Putrajaya.
The rally was held despite police rejecting the organisers’ application for a permit.
Putrajaya police say an investigation paper will be opened under the Peaceful Assembly Act, and several individuals will be called in to have their statements recorded.
Cops say some 1,200 people attended the rally, and no untoward incidents were reported.
