Jan 17, 2025

300 on-demand vans for rapidkl

Prasarana plans to bring in 300 vans this year for its new Demand Responsive Transit service around Rapid KL's train stations.

The Transport Minister says this is part of efforts to ease the long-standing problem of first and last mile connectivity.

Anthony Loke says a proof-of-concept programme van service was introduced last year, and it was a resounding success.

On another note, the minister says that Prasarana's public transport services saw a 24% rise in daily ridership last year, to around 1.1 million passengers.

It also managed to reduce the number of service disruptions last year by nearly 40%, with just 71 such incidents in 2024.

The Madani government's book voucher scheme for students MAY be expanded to teachers in the future.

The Education Minister says she plans to meet with the Ministry of Finance to discuss such a possibility.

Fadhlina Sidek also says the programme has helped boost interest in reading among students since it was introduced last year.

Currently, RM50 in vouchers are given to primary school pupils, while secondary and tertiary students receive RM100.

DBKL says the tree that fell over along Jalan Pudu yesterday morning had rotten roots, and experts will be called in to determine the cause.

Yesterday's incident left 2 people injured, and obstructed traffic along both sides of the road.

--

According to PDRM's figures, 1,966 road accidents were reported nationwide yesterday, the highest single-day total since the start of the new year.

Meanwhile 12 people were killed in fatal crashes, down slightly compared to the previous day.
