No Free Tolls for Festive Seasons!

Jan 21, 2025

no free tolls for festive seasons!

There will be no more free toll during festive seasons, including for next week’s Chinese New Year celebration!

The Works Minister says this is in line with a Cabinet decision from last year.

Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi adds that the exemptions will henceforth be replaced by a more targeted approach, but did not provide details.

--

In a related development, the Malaysia Singapore Coffee Shop Proprietors’ General Association says its traders will be increasing their service charge from 10 to 15 percent for Chinese New Year.

--

The government is urging the public not to take the law into their own hands and to let the authorities deal with any cases of wrongdoing.

Government spokesperson Fahmi Fadzil said this in the wake of the recent assault of a mentally disabled man at a farmers' market in Terengganu, after he crashed his bike into one of the stalls.

--

Separately, Fahmi – who is also Communications Minister – says a chatbot will be launched on WhatsApp in the near future to help curb the spread of fake news on the platform.

--

Around 2.3 billion ringgit in cash handouts will be disbursed to eligible recipients tomorrow, under the first phase of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah initiative.

--

And, US president Donald Trump has signed an executive order to pave the way for America to withdraw from the World Health Organisation.

It was one of several dozen orders signed immediately after his inauguration this morning, besides also pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement and pardoning over 1,600 people who were involved in the 2021 Capitol Riots.

Overall, his executive actions have undone 78 of the policies of his predecessor Joe Biden.
