Feb 18, 2025

hawker with racist sign arrested

Cops have confirmed the arrest of a hawker accused of putting up a racist sign on his food stall.

Sepang police say he has since been released on bail, while cops continue their investigation under laws including the Penal Code and Sedition Act.

The hawker has previously made a public apology over the sign, which sparked widespread outrage.

Cops also confirmed that the suspect's wife, an Indonesian, remains in custody over immigration offences.

In related news, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang says there is no immediate need to introduce new anti-racial discrimination legislation.

He adds that what's more important is to properly enforce existing laws on hate speech and racial provocation...

However, the Ministry MAY introduce a new law in the future if it's needed.

The suspect in last week's shooting at a Setia Alam shopping mall had an extensive criminal record.

The Selangor police chief says he previously served two jail terms for robbery.

This, after cops confirmed that the suspect was shot and killed in Pulau Ketam early this morning.

DBKL is drawing up plans to build high-rise schools that are up to 17 storeys high.

The Federal Territories Ministry says this is one way to maximise space for new schools in KL, due to limited available land.
