Anwar Backs Proposed PM Term Limit
Mar 17, 2025

The PM has backed DAP's call to have a two-term limit for prime ministers.
However, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says it would take time as the government needs to discuss the proposal with all parties, in order to get bipartisan support.
Such a proposal needs a two-thirds majority vote in Parliament, as it involves amending the Federal Constitution.
DAP Secretary-General Anthony Loke had called for the necessary reforms to be implemented within the next two years.
Meanwhile Bersih says it wants the relevant constitutional amendment to be tabled in the next parliament meeting.
The elections watchdog says it's confident that the government can easily secure the required two thirds majority vote, given its success in passing the recent Parliamentary Services Act.
Bersih also called on state governments to impose term limits for Menteris Besar and Chief Ministers.
So far, the only state that has done so is Penang.
