Mar 25, 2025

The Credit Counselling and Debt Management Agency or AKPK is cautioning consumers to be careful with Buy Now Pay Later services.

It told the NST that while this facility can be useful in certain situations, it is not a long-term financial solution, and can cause difficulty down the road, if abused.

This, after Bank Negara revealed that the value of Buy Now Pay Later purchases rose to over 7 billion ringgit in the second half of last year.

-

Bank Negara is calling for stronger price transparency measures in the private healthcare sector.

This is to protect consumers and also to help curb rising medical costs in the country.

The central bank says clearly displaying the prices for drugs and common healthcare services will allow both patients and insurers to compare costs…encourage competition…and prevent excessive charges.

-

More than 4,500 police motorcycle and car patrol units will be deployed to maintain security over the Hari Raya holiday.

Bukit Aman says the units will monitor residential areas and other high-risk locations to prevent break-ins.

Its also advising those who’ll be returning to their hometowns to inform their local police so that the cops know which homes to keep an eye on.

-

A committee will be formed to gather data on temples facing land and administrative issues nationwide.

The Deputy National Unity Minister says the objective is to propose solutions in accordance with laws and regulations and to avoid incidents that could spark tension within the community.

-

And the Health Ministry says more than 51 thousand shops nationwide will be affected by the new ban on displaying tobacco products at sales counters…which starts next month.
