Rafizi, Nik Nazmi Step Down from Cabinet

May 28, 2025

rafizi, nik nazmi step down from cabinet

There are now two vacancies in the Cabinet after Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad announced their resignations today.

Rafizi said he will step down as Economy Minister on June 17th, while Nik Nazmi's resignation as the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability comes into effect on July 4th.

The resignations came after both Cabinet members had suffered defeats in PRK's party elections recently.

Rafizi said he felt his ministerial post had become untenable after he failed to defend his position as the party's deputy president.

His successor, Nurul Izzah Anwar has paid tribute to Rafizi's many contributions to the party and country.

She's also confident that the government will continue to implement many of his policy ideas.

Meanwhile, a political analyst told us that Rafizi's Cabinet resignation does NOT come as a big surprise, as he had previously promised to do just that.

Prof Dato’ Dr Sivamurugan Pandian says it is in line with his principles and political integrity...

And despite his lack of cabinet or party positions, Dr Siva expects Rafizi to continue to be vocal on issues affecting the people...

All eyes will now be on the PM's next steps.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim previously said he would NOT stand in the way if any of his ministers were to resign.

However, he played down the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle.
