Health DG: Don't use Dexamethasone without prescription

Jun 17, 2020

New overseas research has found that the anti-inflammatory steroid, Dexamethasone can help treat serious COVID-19 cases.

However, Health Director General Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says it is ineffective against those who show less severe symptoms, and cautioned against using the drug without a prescription.

He said, “KKM menyeru orang ramai agar tidak menyalahgunakan ubat Dexamethasone tanpa preskripsi. Ini adalah kerana ubat ini mempunyai kesan samping yang perlu diimbangi dengan keputusan dan penggunaan ubat ini bagi penyakit penyakit tertentu.

He adds that its side effects include bone loss and muscle weakness.

Recovered COVID-19 patients 10 times higher than new daily infections

The number of recovered COVID-19 patients today is more than 10 times higher than the number of new cases.

140 patients have recovered, compared to only 10 new infections.

This brings Malaysia’s number of infection cases to 8,515, but only 520 or so are active cases.

The death toll is unchanged at 121.

Meetings, seminars, and conferences allowed during RMCO

Only 250 people are allowed to attend seminars, meetings, and training courses during the Recovery MCO.

However, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says this will also depend on the size of the venue.

He adds that organisers can only serve prepacked meals during the event and not buffet-styled refreshments.
