The compulsory wearing of face masks starts next month

The compulsory wearing of face masks will begin from August 1st. 

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says it will start with public transport, and crowded areas like markets.

On a related note, Datuk Seri Ismail says the public can use their own home-made masks, provided they follow WHO guidelines. 

Active COVID-19 cases now at 143

The number of active COVID-19 infections has risen to 143, after nine new cases were reported today.

The Health Ministry says six are local transmissions. 

This brings the total number of cases to 8,840.

Meanwhile the death toll remains at 123. 

Ceiling price for face masks to drop next month

Starting August 15th, the ceiling price for face masks will go down by 0.30 sen to RM1.20 each. 

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister says the price drop is in line with the government's plan to make wearing face masks in public a compulsory.
