Police start enforcing face mask ruling

Aug 02, 2020

Police have started taking action against those who fail to abide by the new ruling requiring the use of face masks in public areas.

In Penang, 20 people were hauled up by the cops on the first day of enforcement for not wearing face masks and failing to observe social distancing while gathering at a highway rest-stop.

Meanwhile, 26 people were fined 1000 ringgit each in Johor for failing to wear a mask while out at the beach in Kota Tinggi.

However, in Selangor, Petaling Jaya police say they will not be issuing fines for the first couple of days of the new ruling, to let people get used to the new requirement.

This, as the Health Director General once again reminded, that the use of face masks needs to be combined with physical distancing and good hygiene, to effectively break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

Nine new infections

Meanwhile, nine new Covid-19 infections were reported yesterday, seven of which were imported cases.

It brings the number of ACTIVE cases in the country to 213.

Yesterday also saw three more patients discharged, while there were no new fatalities.
