No one above the law, especially regarding mandatory COVID-19 SOPs

Aug 24, 2020

No one is above the law, when it comes to mandatory COVID-19 SOPs

The Deputy Health Minister told Parliament that serious breaches of SOPs will be dealt with by authorities such as the police and legislative bodies.

Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali adds that no one can escape punishment, not even prominent individuals or politicians.

This amid public backlash after the Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister was only fined one thousand ringgit by the Health Ministry, for failing to follow quarantine SOPs upon returning from abroad.

Meanwhile Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has called for a thorough investigation against the Plantation Minister.

Malaysia reports 7 new COVID-19 cases

The number of active COVID-19 infections has risen to 184, after seven new cases were reported today.

Of the new cases five are local transmissions and were all detected in Sarawak.

The death toll remains unchanged at 125.

Over 500 people arrested for breaking RMCO SOPs

515 people were detained yesterday for flouting SOPs under the Recovery MCO.

Defence Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob says six were released on bail, 69 were remanded, while the rest were issued compounds.

He adds that nearly 20 of them were caught for not wearing face masks.
