Health Ministry wants fine for flouting Covid-19 SOPs to be raised

Aug 26, 2020

The Health Ministry wants the fine for flouting Covid-19 SOPs to be raised from the current RM1,000 to RM10,000.

Its Director General says the proposal has already been submitted to Parliament and will take some time to be passed.

Meanwhile, Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is not in favour of a motion tabled recently for the maximum RM1,000 fine to be reduced to RM250.

Earlier, an opposition MP submitted the motion on the grounds that the current fine is too high and is a burden to the rakyat, especially the poor.

The Dewan Rakyat passed amendments to the Insolvency Act to increase the bankruptcy threshold from RM50,000 to RM100,000.

The bill was passed with a simple voice vote in the House.

The de facto Law Minister also noted that over 4,000 brankrupts were declared as of last month, with most of them being men.

Africa has been declared free from wild polio by the Africa Regional Certification Commission.

Polio usually affects children under 5, sometimes leading to irreversible paralysis and what's worst is that death can occur when breathing muscles are affected.

The disease is now only found in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
